More and More these days, movies have been mostly dry, stale, worn out,or sequels, and i am not a fan. That said- i am not a cinema cynic. I'm just conservative. I wish Silent Movies were still occasionally made and maybe a good black and white. But seriously folks- many movies nowadays are more computer than actor...or talentTake 2008 summer film "The Hulk". 95% of that movie was big, elaborate CGI explosions that they showed over and over for 2 hours. Why can't we go back to the movies of the 80's-90's? I don't care what anyone says- HAND DRAWN IS BETTER THAN COMPUTER ANIMATED! Any studio other than Pixar just can't pull it off. It's less humane...Hand Drawn has a distinct styalized feel. Anyhoozle. this journal is devoted to my worthless 2 cents about different factors of current movies.


COMIC BOOK MOVIES

How many superhero movies have there been in the past 10 years? 10 at least..more if you include all the sequels. And how many of them have been Good? 5 if i'm feeling Generous? Even fewer of them have been necissary. It almost seems that lately they are really searching (or inventing) superheros to make movies about. When I was a Kid, all i knew about "Iron Man" was that it came on FOXKids at like- 7:00 in the morning. Next thing I Know, it's a box office hit. And i just want to add- What The Fuck is "The Punisher"? Is he a good guy, a bad guy, or just some weirdo in a suit who beats people up? I'm thinking it's the later. Movies like "iron man" And "the dark knight" have been the exeptions and have been little suns in my dark and cynical world. They were the exeptions for many many reasons- The Acting was Great, the Graphics were Great, adn the Writing was Awesome. All of the Characters were many-sided figures with different sides that all fit together perfectly. and it supported my rule with graphics. When watching a movie, you shouldn't think- "Wow, those are really good Special Effects!" You should completely believe the illusion. Like Star Wars- when watching, I completely believed the Emperial Walkers were real as they were walking by. One thing that annoyed me (more with Dark Knight than Iron Man) Was the publics reaction. I had hoards of my friends insisting that it was incredibly deep and Artistic, with a lot of symbolism and double-ontandras. Was it really deep and artistically revolutionary--No. Was it an AMAZING movie? Hells Yeah.

3-D

I have nothing against moving forward. I love fancy do-dads and gadgets that make things more fun and interesting. Ladies and Gentlemen- 3-D is not one of those things. With good movies, you jump when something (lets say a cannonball) comes at the camera. But with 3-D, it comes lumbering slowly out of the screen and OHMIGOD- Striaght At Me! But it is moving so slowly, that it could only be rolling on the floor. There seems to be a common misconception amongst 3-D generators that people aren't getting their money's worth unless things are being hurled at us. Ever since my first 3-D movie back when i was 8, I have been attacked by Arrows, Swords, Fire, Fists, Eels, Sharks, Zombies, and Pirates. Every time they throw something at us, it completely breaks the illusion of the film- fists, arrows, swords, etc. do not come at us so slowly that we caan actually preceive it coming at us. at least..not unless any of you have spider senses. which i doubt. 3-D is unsatisfactory, unnecisary, and carelessly used. 2 deminsions are enough.
